Late bloomers… still bloom

Lately I’ve had a lot of conversations with other creatives and seen posts about organic growth and followers(mostly pertaining to Instagram). I see a lot of creatives losing hope due to the lack of numbers and following. I can relate that it’s annoying when you are putting in work but it seems like nothing is working. I’ve had that experience in my craft, in my personal life and it always ended up working out once I changed the mindset and energy .As I mentioned in “Late Bloomer” , I started most things in life later than most or what society says due to being a Mother early. That alone makes me ok to not have what others have or getting there at the same time. It taught me that a different or longer route isn’t a bad thing. Blessings,  like a maze will still find a way/you. Being frustrated about opportunities and numbers or goals is normal.  I think all those feelings are growing pains and the deeper issue and question is “what more can …

Gingham Mami- all the must buys!

I heard gingham is “trending” aka they pulled it out the classic archives. Here’s the thing… it’s at least the 5th or 6th time it’s been re-trending since I was like 8/9 years old. How do I remember ? Because my aunt who was my fashion icon had a beautiful flowy  gingham red dress that was off the shoulder. That was my intro to gingham and since then have been a fave. BUT let’s talk about quality because some prints are just plain ugly and very cheap looking. Here’s my aunt in “94”with the dress!! She just sent it.(I never forget a dope outfit!) I love you toooo  much to let you go and  pick up just any kind so I picked a few faves that are classic and will live past the “trend season”. When you shop with a purpose there is no going out of style. These two pics are styled by me from an event I had with Shake Shack Newbury called “Shakes & Silhouettes” last month.   *pic credentials on IG* …

Tunnel Vision

“My momma told me boy make a decision right now I gotta keep a tunnel vision”~ Kodak Black The goal is to do it all at the same damn time. Says the princess in the fairytale being fed grapes with her foot up with no kids lol. When I’m killing it in one area another area is neglected at least a little bit. I have been booked with styling gigs and had to pick my head back up to touch up on other things in life. Like the gym, gaining weight(yes because my butt is getting small from working a lot and not eating enough.) “I like nice curves and I cannot lie”😂😂👌🏾🙌🏾😀 When I think of tunnel vision I think about my college days when I was working a full time job and getting good grades and starting a side business. Those days remind me that I got comfortable because I can do wayyy more with a little more planning and focus. We need a reminder sometimes. So anywho I’ve been thinking about tunnel vision …

Layered & Privileged

Look who decided to finally have a “Fall” outfit after layering up her Summer t shirts with sweaters and anything she can find. I’d rather be layered up than to have one to two basic pieces for Fall. Sigh…. it’s cold as heck, but I knew that was coming like it has been for the last 31 years of life yet I complain every Fall and Winter. Moving on>>>>>>>Last week or about a week and a half ago I said to myself one morning “Damn I’m tired!” Almost as if I had sympathy for myself. Within the same breath I sat up straight and said “It’s a privilege to be tired!” Here I am tired from working on an assisting styling project that whole  week everyday from like 8am-6pm and plus an additional gig where I was the lead stylist. Like the nerve of me to complain. I had to check myself like yes you are physically tired but your heart is filled. You are doing something you love, EVERY SINGLE DAY. Somebody didn’t wake …

Late Bloomer

Fall and  layering season is finally here *does the running man*   and so is the  reminder that we only have 3 more months till the end of the year. Like just three….. Only. It feels just like the other day I was decked out in all Green saying Happy New year 😫. While I made new year goals like most, it was also important to attack those goals at a pace that worked for me and my life. As a creative in the days of social media, there are examples as to what , where we can be and how to get there.  This can be inspiring, but can quickly be discouraging if viewed differently. Late bloomers isn’t just a childhood thing. It happens as adults and should be something we embrace. Others successes should be an inspiration and reminder  for us versus a pitty party for how far we haven’t gone. Personally, Ive always reached my milestones   differently than most of my peers. Highschool I became a Mom at 17 and  graduated  with …

Date at 8

” Got a date at 8 I’m in my 740  fizive“~Remy Ma I don’t have a 745 but I did have a date last week and this is what I wore. When I say  I have like 10-15 minutes to find an outfit, It’s not to sound cool.  It’s the truth.  Even when not limited to a time frame it’s somewhat preferred.  Like a crazy challenge of how to get cute in 10 minutes.  Most of the time the outfit is a go and every once in a while it’s a “See Vanessa  you should have prepared it ahead of time”.  I’ve come to terms with this habit and will stick to it.     Truth is when you have a closet full of essentials and quality pieces, dressing shouldn’t be complicated.  No reason for hours of try on’s.  Recently I took notice that my wardrobe could use some restocking of  basic essentials.  Another blazer and boyfriend jeans was on the list.  My Lover of a store H&M of course had most of them.  They have some …

Fitness Fresh

I’m loving how all of these fitness and athletic gear are damn near runway worthy.  For the longest time there was only boring ill fitting black and gray tights and hoodies to wear to the gym.  Now you got spicy, couture like, creative designs…all to work out in. Winning!   Yes I am one of those girls who goes to the gym looking cute or matching at least.  I see nothing wrong with that.  The workout gear gives me something else to look forward to.  If you follow my snap you see my excitement for my new prints, colors for the gym.  I say dress how you want and be cute  as long as you are actually working out.   I found this dope Rita Ora X Adidas Jacket two months ago.  While it has the original Adidas feel, the prints and the bow spoke High Fashion.  I absolutely will not we sweating in this.  My full and only intentions are to wear it with cute outfits. The beauty of it is that if I …

Taste Of Nola Pt. 1

Throwing it back to this gem of a place- New Orleans Louisiana. Traveling opens our minds, educates us and leaves us with a piece of that place we visited.  NOLA was the trip I didn’t know I needed.  Besides a few emails here and there and checking on my children it was truly a relaxing  vacation. I ate well.  Like three heavy meals as a kid in brooklyn type of well. We stayed at the Royal Sonesta   where Live Jazz replaced chirping birds and bagels were replaced by fresh fried beignets. My lenses can only show you a  small portion of this magic, so here’s a taste of NOLA… Share This:

#BostonCoffeeTalk- May

We got caught up in one of those “Sike it’s Winter”weather on  May 7th. Nothing too bad to not meet up for coffee though. May’s #BostonCoffeeTalk was  on Style( which was served so end of discussion!) and Self care. Most of us work and juggle some other type of responsibility.  Some of us families, side hustles or just the day to day activities.  One thing we all need and should always invest in is Self care.  It was great to meet some new locals and hear how they self care and juggle entrepreneurship! Enlightening convo and great tips.  Thank you all!  Those who couldn’t make it due to being stuck in the parade, you were there in spirit and your attempt is appreciated.  Hope to see you next month.   I did mention that style was served right? Well…..   Was I lying? I want to rock an Afro, steal Bridgette’s  boots and get fitted for a new suit. Yasss Boston come through! Speaking of STYLE- I will be having my first Style Meet Up at …

#BostonCoffeeTalk March Ft. Elissa Garza

#BostonCoffeeTalk Date: March 26,2016 Location: Caffe Nero Jamaica Plain Once again   great energy, inviting  and stylish influencers filled the room last weekend at Caffe Nero. March featured guest was Boston  Girl Boss Elissa Garza of Style Wire.  Since meeting her 2 years ago at a Marie Claire feature shoot, she got and  kept my attention with her drive,  cool-chic style and consistency.                                   Caffe Nero JP may just be our permanent location.  With a window seat so wide and inviting,  you feel  connected to the community and by passers all while building inside.                                                                 Styles introduced themselves one by one  before I could even extend a hand. Every garment and detail so intentional and personal.   Tailored fits to thigh high boots, stacked accessories, fringes and pops of brights…my eyes …
