#NewYorkCoffeeTalk Fashion & Finance Ft. Micaéla Verrelien

December 9th I hosted the last #NewYorkCoffeeTalk of the year on Fashion & Finance  Ft. Micaela Verrelien.  While having a telephone convo Micaela mentioned how “some creatives still don’t know what an EIN is”.  I thought wow, we have to do a coffee talk on Fashion & Finance.  It’s easy to share places to shop and how to look, but being financially fit is so much more important.    Micaéla who is a an accountant   by day deals with numbers, budgeting and invoicing all day so she was the perfect host to help us set the tone for 2018! You know wasn’t no snow about to stop NY creatives from linking up.  Micaéla gave us tips on billing, contracts and the types of business accounts we can have. Other attendees shared their experience and what has worked for them.  So informative and so exciting to hear about current businesses and hustles and the ventures that are to come .               Photography by : Jennelle Gordon Follow her Instagram for …

This Ain’t A Christmas Ad

….more like a “Twirl into it post”  Sometimes you have to put on your “feel good pieces”. What’s that you ask? Feel good pieces are any items / essentials  that makes you feel good. The ones that make you feel sexy, powerful and unapologetic. For days when I’m leaning towards pitty parties or procrastination I will put on my red lipstick as a pick me up. Or a fuzzy full length  cardigan that makes me feel bad ass because it flows behind me like a cape. Extra I know, but it gets the job done. What’s that job you ask? To look the part and get shit done with a better attitude.  Here’s a few things I do when I’m dragging in the morning. Pull my hair up  Show your face to the world instead of hiding behind your hair. You are forced to have your chin up. Lipstick  It works every time!  There’s no way you are going to pout with done up lips. Who said date night lips can’t be worn in the …

Boston Calling  Street style

Can I just say  that yesterday was like the best day ever?! The best. I had never been to Boston Calling until they this year. I was absolutely bummed that Solange didn’t make it , but there was so much more to look forward to and boy was it lit! I will go deeper into the performers in my personal style post. What I love the most is that the festival is three days and you can buy tickets separately for each day…. even at the gate! 🙌🏾🙌🏾  You know I couldn’t  attend without covering fashion. So yesterday felt like New York Fashion Week again with me approaching people to ask permission to take their pics.  Everyone was so sweet and agreed….Dope vibe dope style. It lives here in Boston …👇🏾 Loved this bomber and how she effortlessly layed the cross body bag. @sal.florentina Yes to all of these colors and the pigtail bun. @shell.yahHow cute is this Coachella Mami @JamieptranIn Living color @flwrsandfernsShe came to slay and stay dry! @juliaathy🦄 eyesCool kid.“I’m from New York” 😎 …

Thank you….maybe

You ever give a compliment to someone and their reaction/response or lack there of had you rethinking where you went wrong? Like “No not your social security number or address…..your blouse girl your blouse! it’s cute”. I’m hella friendly, severely talkative and a compliment giver since a kid.  I remember being in Kings Plaza Mall as a kid and my mother literally pulling me behind her  with my sister giving me that “Shut Up!” stare as I try to finish a conversation and a compliment. Compliments do more for me than me trying to do for the person. I realize they make it about someone else for that time and not us or whatever problems we could be facing. So whether I get a response I like or not I’m still gonna dish out genuine compliments. “You get a compliment! You get a compliment! *Oprah’s voice and hand gesture*. No but seriously I’ve learned for some it goes back to upbringing and personality. I’ve met people who expressed that their lack of confidence made it …

Corner Store Mami

A corner store?  Yup a corner store! Growing up as a kid in Brooklyn my Summer memories  were Fire hydrates, Carnivals , bumping into rappers like Busta Rhymes at the local Mc Donalds and  corner store trips.  You couldn’t tell me I didn’t have the best Summers.  A few dollars would by  us quarter waters, sour powers, five peanut chews and an icy. The colors, the endless candy options was like my daily Disney.  In July while shooting this  look from NY Men’s Fashion Week, I decided to stop at a neighborhood corner store, post up and shoot. Me:  Hi I’m a blogger, * pulls out my phone and shows Instagram pics*  Can I shoot here? Owner: Sure! This is cool can I look while you shoot? This choice came about because I was tired and overdue for a switch up for a shoot location and style.  Once at the corner store, I was reminded that change is good and the spur of the moment  is sometimes the medicine to boredom(I get bored easily).  As a …

#BostonCoffeeTalk 1 Year Anniversary Brunch

Last Saturday I held a brunch at the beautiful Outlook Kitchen + Bar  to celebrate #BostonCoffeeTalk 1 year anniversary .  Whooot!  It sold out and attendees shut it down! If you have been following the blog and or my social media handles you know that this was a meet up I started last August for local creatives to come together and Meet. Build. Sip.  I’m grateful for the support for both Boston and #NewYorkCoffeeTalk. Every month we met strangers, locals from all walks of life who left an impression on the meet up.  I never dragged to attend, but more so overly  excited for who I’d meet and what I’d learn that Saturday. This Saturday was like #BostonCoffeeTalk MAX  topped with serious….SERIOUS street style. It felt like all of the meetups combined with glitter. We had Bloggers, Serial Entrepreneurs, Designers, Artist, Mom’s, Bosses to name a few in attendance. A few times I caught myself sitting in admiration of  the attendees and the energy that filled the room. Priceless. In typical #BostonCoffeeTalk fashion, we hit the …

Glow

Morning Sugar’s! Back in Boston ,but still in vaca vibes. My mood is extra upbeat and rejuvenated. I  made it back Sunday in time to have dinner with my family, watch Power, get some rest and shoot yesterday morning and cook dinner yesterday evening(view my Instagram stories). Tackling my to do list like that reminds of how time can be on our side when we plan and act.  Puerto Rico was so good to me. I ate well, very well and pretty much relaxed other than threatening my son with a time out every other Palm Tree we passed (the kid complains about everything). I love how my skin glowed the last few days there.  A shade or two darker, no sunburn is forever vacation goals. Resting also helped with this glow. In my last post I talked about Self Care and traveling being one of mine. This trip was just what I needed with my children’s Back 2 school schedule coming and New York Fashion Week in two weeks.  Let’s hope I can keep …

#BostonCoffeeTalk- May

We got caught up in one of those “Sike it’s Winter”weather on  May 7th. Nothing too bad to not meet up for coffee though. May’s #BostonCoffeeTalk was  on Style( which was served so end of discussion!) and Self care. Most of us work and juggle some other type of responsibility.  Some of us families, side hustles or just the day to day activities.  One thing we all need and should always invest in is Self care.  It was great to meet some new locals and hear how they self care and juggle entrepreneurship! Enlightening convo and great tips.  Thank you all!  Those who couldn’t make it due to being stuck in the parade, you were there in spirit and your attempt is appreciated.  Hope to see you next month.   I did mention that style was served right? Well…..   Was I lying? I want to rock an Afro, steal Bridgette’s  boots and get fitted for a new suit. Yasss Boston come through! Speaking of STYLE- I will be having my first Style Meet Up at …

5 Ways To Wear A Collared Shirt

I call them Men’s cut shirts for Women.  Some call it boyfriend button down shirt. Whatever you call it, get one! These shirts have the right amount of room, where Men’s sometimes are awkwardly big depending on the brand.  If you aren’t a pro at selecting them then start with these that H&M offer. They are comfortable, affordable and a wardrobe essential must have. Belt them, leave a few buttons undone, drop it past your shoulders….too many options! Below are five ways I wore my  H&M shirt within the last month. 9-5 chic/ Boss-babe  I wore this to church last weekend with the shirt pulled out(throw a skinny belt on it too).  9-5 Chic appropriate. Business Casual/meetings Tuck it in Wore this last month to run errands in the city and meet with clients. Vacationing Let it loose I wore this during the day while vacationing in New Orleans last month. Would look great with linen pants for the Summer or island attire. Aldos Boots  , Fanm Djanm bag Date night/ After work drinks Off the shoulder is so …

#NEWYORKCOFFEETALK Ft. Monroe Steele

“Another one!”(DJ Khaled voice) Yup another Coffee Talk in NY! Our first NY feature was the ridiculously dope Monroe of  Fashion Steele.  If you didn’t catch my Instagram posts promoting the talk then what you missed was a long list of why she was featured….hmmm…One of the most consistent fashion bloggers, sickest shoe game ever with the best pair of legs to match and she stays true to her style, vision oh and in the day time she’s Dr. Monroe.  Love it Love it!  This is just a few of the many reasons. Empowering isn’t about having the same look, lifestyle and beliefs all the time.  For me its Simply I love what you do how you do it and thanks for the reminder that “It” is possible. Boom.  That’s it.  If a Woman is dope let her know because we lose nothing by lifting another one up. We touched on Women Empowerment and how important it is to support each other and have a circle where its okay to brag. You know, how Men …
