Tunnel Vision

“My momma told me boy make a decision right now I gotta keep a tunnel vision”~ Kodak Black The goal is to do it all at the same damn time. Says the princess in the fairytale being fed grapes with her foot up with no kids lol. When I’m killing it in one area another area is neglected at least a little bit. I have been booked with styling gigs and had to pick my head back up to touch up on other things in life. Like the gym, gaining weight(yes because my butt is getting small from working a lot and not eating enough.) “I like nice curves and I cannot lie”😂😂👌🏾🙌🏾😀 When I think of tunnel vision I think about my college days when I was working a full time job and getting good grades and starting a side business. Those days remind me that I got comfortable because I can do wayyy more with a little more planning and focus. We need a reminder sometimes. So anywho I’ve been thinking about tunnel vision …

On time and in style!

The last time I was crazy about a watch or cared for one was in the 4th grade. I remember the details and colors so vividly. It was a Mickey Mouse gold trim face watch with  a brown leather band.  As a child I took notice that my mother always wore a watch and would never leave home without it. From that time  I always looked at a watch like a statement piece. It was an accessory  that I associated with sophistication /businessman. Fast forward to today and I finally found a watch that I actually care for and like. When Jord Watches sent me a link to their site and collection I was like 😱😍(seriously!). In a world of rose gold and blinged out watches, this brand definitely got my attention and kept it. Unique, classic and statement making watches.  As if the designs weren’t good  enough, the packaging was also extra ordinary and icing on the cake. Presentation to me is a summary of the brand and vision. Sold!   In the 20 …

Late Bloomer

Fall and  layering season is finally here *does the running man*   and so is the  reminder that we only have 3 more months till the end of the year. Like just three….. Only. It feels just like the other day I was decked out in all Green saying Happy New year 😫. While I made new year goals like most, it was also important to attack those goals at a pace that worked for me and my life. As a creative in the days of social media, there are examples as to what , where we can be and how to get there.  This can be inspiring, but can quickly be discouraging if viewed differently. Late bloomers isn’t just a childhood thing. It happens as adults and should be something we embrace. Others successes should be an inspiration and reminder  for us versus a pitty party for how far we haven’t gone. Personally, Ive always reached my milestones   differently than most of my peers. Highschool I became a Mom at 17 and  graduated  with …

Lately

So one minute I was on the beach in San Juan Puerto Rico, then next thing I know I’m back and diving head first into New York Fashion Week prep and invites.  From there it’s been like the first week of High school.  Excitement, fatigue and anxiety.  So all in all I’m still blessed but I feel like I’ve been sprinting and needed to sit my ass down and just ….sit there.  No thinking no nothing. My body started trying to shut down while in NY and officially progressed when I got back home.  Made it through my #BostonCoffeeTalkBrunch and was wiped out after that. Now that I’m feeling better I’m back to werk, styling and working on some events. I stopped looking for the “Perfect Balance” and just focus on maximizing my time and working smart.  Some days I’m on it and other days I’m chasing it like a missed bus. That’s OK. I’ve been shifting my thoughts and focusing on all the great things and not the negative.  I find stressing takes away from …

#BostonCoffeeTalk 1 Year Anniversary Brunch

Last Saturday I held a brunch at the beautiful Outlook Kitchen + Bar  to celebrate #BostonCoffeeTalk 1 year anniversary .  Whooot!  It sold out and attendees shut it down! If you have been following the blog and or my social media handles you know that this was a meet up I started last August for local creatives to come together and Meet. Build. Sip.  I’m grateful for the support for both Boston and #NewYorkCoffeeTalk. Every month we met strangers, locals from all walks of life who left an impression on the meet up.  I never dragged to attend, but more so overly  excited for who I’d meet and what I’d learn that Saturday. This Saturday was like #BostonCoffeeTalk MAX  topped with serious….SERIOUS street style. It felt like all of the meetups combined with glitter. We had Bloggers, Serial Entrepreneurs, Designers, Artist, Mom’s, Bosses to name a few in attendance. A few times I caught myself sitting in admiration of  the attendees and the energy that filled the room. Priceless. In typical #BostonCoffeeTalk fashion, we hit the …

#BostonCoffeeTalk- May

We got caught up in one of those “Sike it’s Winter”weather on  May 7th. Nothing too bad to not meet up for coffee though. May’s #BostonCoffeeTalk was  on Style( which was served so end of discussion!) and Self care. Most of us work and juggle some other type of responsibility.  Some of us families, side hustles or just the day to day activities.  One thing we all need and should always invest in is Self care.  It was great to meet some new locals and hear how they self care and juggle entrepreneurship! Enlightening convo and great tips.  Thank you all!  Those who couldn’t make it due to being stuck in the parade, you were there in spirit and your attempt is appreciated.  Hope to see you next month.   I did mention that style was served right? Well…..   Was I lying? I want to rock an Afro, steal Bridgette’s  boots and get fitted for a new suit. Yasss Boston come through! Speaking of STYLE- I will be having my first Style Meet Up at …

5 Ways To Wear A Collared Shirt

I call them Men’s cut shirts for Women.  Some call it boyfriend button down shirt. Whatever you call it, get one! These shirts have the right amount of room, where Men’s sometimes are awkwardly big depending on the brand.  If you aren’t a pro at selecting them then start with these that H&M offer. They are comfortable, affordable and a wardrobe essential must have. Belt them, leave a few buttons undone, drop it past your shoulders….too many options! Below are five ways I wore my  H&M shirt within the last month. 9-5 chic/ Boss-babe  I wore this to church last weekend with the shirt pulled out(throw a skinny belt on it too).  9-5 Chic appropriate. Business Casual/meetings Tuck it in Wore this last month to run errands in the city and meet with clients. Vacationing Let it loose I wore this during the day while vacationing in New Orleans last month. Would look great with linen pants for the Summer or island attire. Aldos Boots  , Fanm Djanm bag Date night/ After work drinks Off the shoulder is so …

Diamonds and Pearls

When packing to go anywhere, grab some sort of sequins, textured fabric  and sneakers. Preferably  Converse sneakers. Oh and your fringe H&M earrings that go with everything. I pack like a crazy person, never really having a whole look, but things seem to always work out.  To be honest I think I just like the rush of planning an outfit on the spot.  That or I just will never get used to pre-planning outfits when I don’t know how I’m going to feel.  Yes it’s that serious.  Why would I dress opposite of how I feel if my ensemble can exude my exact mood that day?  Exactly there’s no reason at all. Any who.  I was a mixture of Cher(If you don’t know who she is I can’t help) in the early 70’s and a remix of a  little Haitian girl having her first communion. I looked at the dress and thought “hmmm all this white and all this glitter?! and then the typical Vana response of “Why not?!”.  Once I give myself the “why …

” Mom appropriate?”

“As a Mother how do you decide what is fashionable yet appropriate?” A creative asked me at #BostonCoffeeTalk this past weekend.  My eyes lit up….like what a great question! I hear so much on “looking like a Mom” and what’s “Mom appropriate” that I was more than happy to share my opinion on this topic. My answer “I don’t wear anything that I can’t comfortably wear around my children or  want my daughter to find if she googles me”   Growing up my Mother didn’t do midriffs(besides a few 80’s pics)or skirts and shorts that were over the knees….all while being fashionable.  I loved all of her outfits, but what stood out above all was how she carried herself.  She was always so classy and confident. This taught me that confidence and feeling sexy was a feeling , a way of being and not a particular fit.  She could have worn a plastic bag and still have been chic because of her attitude and  bone straight  posture. I keep in mind via my dressing, …

Creative Corner

Best medicine for Creatives is to Create. Now…   I’ve been in a really “juicy” creative space (I like to call it ) lately.  Creative juices damn near oozing out of my pores it seems.   Sometimes my brain feels like it’s damn   near explosion due to so many ideas with so little time.  Some days like below I just  get up, grab a few textures that grabs the eye and just shoot. With no shoes…just simply vibin and creating. Freely.   Jeans: G-Star Raw Robe: TjMaxx(Feb) Glasses: Tjmaxx   Share This:
